Citizenship in the Community: Do either before class or after class:

3A: Attend a city council or school board meeting.

3B: Choose one of the issues discussed at the meeting; was differences of opinions expressed. And explain why you agree with one opinion more than you do another one.

4: Choose an issue that is important to the citizens of your community, then do......

4A: Find out which branch of local government is responsible for this issue.

4B: Interview one person from the branch of government you identified in 4A., Ask what is being done about this issue, and how young people can help.

4C: Share what you have learned with your counselor.

***I recommend going to the city council meeting for requirement #3 and interview one of the board members for requirement #4.***

And do Requirement #7:

7A: Choose a charible organization outside of Scouting that interests you and brings people in your community together to work for the good of your community.

7B: Using a variety of resources, find out more about this organization.

7C Contact the organization and find out what young people can do to help. While working on this merit badge; volunteer 8 hours of your time for the organization. After your volunteer is over, discuss what you have learned with your counselor. Have the person from the organization write there name and number so we can verify your service hours.

The rest of the requirments I plan to do in classs; please read your merit badge booklet and come to class with the Citizenship in the Community worksheet ( http://usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/Citizenship-in-the-Community.doc ). I will not sign off on any badges if the worksheet is not completed.
